阿尔斯特苏格兰语
阿尔斯特苏格兰语（英语：Ulster Scots或Ulster-Scots，阿尔斯特苏格兰语：Ulstèr-Scotch）[6][7]指的是在爱尔兰阿尔斯特省境内所说的一种低地苏格兰语方言。[5][8][9]一些区分方法把带着阿尔斯特苏格兰语口音的标准英语也算在内。[10][11]阿尔斯特苏格兰语受到了爱尔兰英语，特别是中阿尔斯特英语和阿尔斯特爱尔兰语的影响。因为受英语和爱尔兰语的影响不同，其可分为偏向英语的或偏向爱尔兰语的阿尔斯特苏格兰语。[11]

17世纪早期苏格兰移民将低地苏格兰语带到了阿尔斯特地区，[12]而阿尔斯特地区最早的低地苏格兰语书写历史也只能追溯到这个时期。到20世纪末，阿尔斯特地区的低地苏格兰语书写开始与苏格兰本地发生区分。[13]新的拼字法便被创造出来了。[14]
名称 编辑
阿尔斯特苏格兰语在英语中曾被书写为“Scotch-Irish”，但现在通常写作“Ulster Scots”。[15]说这种语言的人通常称其为“Braid Scots”、[1]“Scotch”、[3][16]或“hamely tongue”。[17]1980年代起，一个新词“Ullans”开始普及，这个词是由[18]“Ulster”和“Lallans”（苏格兰语“苏格兰低地”）组合而成的，[19]但同时也是“Ulster-Scots language in literature and native speech”[20]的首字母缩写。但也有人使用老式的“Ulstèr-Scotch”。[6][7]间或有人使用“Hiberno-Scots”，[21]但这个词一般指的是阿尔斯特苏格兰人。[22]
法律地位 编辑
阿尔斯特苏格兰语于1999年3月8日英爱双方就建立执行机关协议中被釐定为如下：
“Ullans”应理解为北爱尔兰与多尼戈尔郡部分地方传统使用的一种苏格兰语。
北爱1999年北南合作（执行机关）令将协议全文于其附表一实施。
英国政府回应欧洲区域或少数民族语言宪章声明如下：
联合王国根据宪章第2条第一项承认苏格兰语和阿尔斯特苏格兰语符合宪章关于宪章第二部对于地区或少数民族语言的定义，特此声明。
这种承认相比对于爱尔兰语写进宪章的承诺，其中引用了第三部的实质条款以保育和推广爱尔兰语，有明显分别。
