普利策音乐奖
普利策音乐奖（Pulitzer Prize for Music）是普利策奖的七个奖项之一，奖励戏剧和音乐家。它源自1943年约瑟夫·普利策建立的一个奖学金[1]，该奖每年颁发，只有1965年无人得奖[2]。

1974年普利策音乐奖得主唐纳德·马蒂诺说：“如果你写的音乐足够长，迟早有人会看你可怜并颁给你这该死的东西。它并不总是奖给年度最好的作品，而只是奖给之前没得它的人”[3]。2001年得主约翰·科里利亚诺也说这奖根本不是颁给对这世界有意义的作品，而是由作曲家互相颁发[4]。2003年得主约翰·亚当斯说美国大多数的优秀音乐作品都被它忽略了[4]。
1998年，作曲家和音乐评论家凯尔·甘恩说普利策音乐奖和其他顶级作曲奖的评委几乎一直是冈瑟·舒勒、约瑟夫·施万特纳、雅克布·德鲁克曼、乔治·波尔、约翰·哈比森、马里奥·大卫朵夫斯基和伯纳德·兰德这七人。他说这些“上城区”的白人评委一贯以欧洲中心主义的审美来审作品，他们确定了过去二十年中美国音乐奖项的得主，而“下城区”的作曲家从来没有份。[5]
