有毒植物所含毒素可引起人类或其他动物中毒不适甚至死亡。[1]有些生物会在食用后将毒素储存在体内，作为抵御天敌的手段之一。[2]
常见品种：姑婆芋（含有剧毒，误食以及触碰汁液都会导致严重中毒反应）、凤凰木（花、种子）、黑板树（汁液）、马缨丹（枝叶）、粗肋草（误食）、白千层（部分人会对其花粉过敏）等。
