汤博区

汤博区（英语：Tombaugh Regio，俗称冥王星之心）是矮行星冥王星一个显著的表面特征。[3][4][5]一个横跨大约1,590公里的巨大、浅色区域，[1]在NASA的媒体当中被昵称为冥王星的“心”。[6][7][8]

该区域首次被发现是在新视野号探测器从异常进入的安全模式恢复后，由冥王星所传回来的初始影像。NASA最初依照其整体外型轮廓而称为“心”。[9]2015年7月15日，这个区域被NASA正式命名为“汤博区”，以纪念冥王星的发现者-天文学家克莱德·汤博。[3]尽管如此，NASA仍旧会使用“心”来称呼这个区域[10]。

稍后收集到的资料显示，“心”的两“叶”虽然共同有一个明亮的外观，但相邻的地质特性却截然不同。左叶的部分比右叶来得平滑，颜色也有些微不同。[11]在早先的猜想，左叶是被氮雪填满的巨大陨石坑，当中的亮点则是突出的山峰。[12]7月15日公开的照片显示了当中有3,500米高，由水冰形成的山脉。在“心”底部的深暗区域，似乎可能是一个含有大量冰的撞击坑，而“水冰山脉”是碰撞的残余碎片，“汤博区”的平滑特征则是碰撞后安定的残余。

在新视野号所得到最初的相片中，平滑的表面缺乏撞击坑，显示该大撞击在冥王星的行星形成中是“近期”发生的。从这种巨大的撞击产生的热，可能是行星碰撞的交互作用中仍无法解释的能量储存。这样撞击的巨大力量可以解释一些冥王星表面所看到的地质特征，同时也有助于进一步解释其他目前尚未了解的地貌过程。[13]

这个特征在新视野号穿越的60年前已经被辨认为是一个亮点，虽然在当时仍不可能有足够的分辨率来确定它的形状。[14]

有些人也认为这个特征看起来像是迪士尼当中与冥王星同名的角色——布鲁托。[15][16][17]。此外，该特征也意外地与美少女战士的水手冥王星的武器时空之杖上可分离的石榴石外型相似。
