猎人赫恩
猎人赫恩（Herne the Hunter）是传说中出没于英国伯克郡温莎森林和温莎大公园的一个幽灵，其头上长著鹿角。首次书面提及猎人赫恩的文献是莎士比亚1597年出版的《温莎的风流娘儿们》，不过最早的版本中书写为“Horne”[1]，后来赫恩又多次出现于其他著作和媒体中。而起具体的起源还有争议。

关于猎人赫恩的起源有许多种说法，而还有更多的传说没有佐证。在R. Lowe Thompson1929年著作《The History of the Devil – The Horned God of the West Herne》中，作者认为猎人赫恩和其他欧中传说中的鬼猎人来源相同，并认为“Herne”可能与高卢人的神祇瑟农诺斯之名起源相同。[2] 一些现代的异教例如威卡教相信这一说法，并将猎人赫恩与神瑟农诺斯画上了等号。[3] 但实际上赫恩只是出现于伯克郡内，其他地区并没有相关记载。与之相对，瑟农诺斯也从没有在英国本土传说中出现过。[4] 赫恩与瑟农诺斯可能确实有相同的语根*ker-n-（意思是骨头或角），但更加相似的来源是古英语的“hyrne”，意即“角落”或“角”。[5][6][7]
在中世纪前期，温莎森林是在盎格鲁撒克逊人的控制下的，此地同时也被用来祭祀他们的神沃登（有角）等。有人认为“Herne”是来自沃登的一个头衔“Herian”。[8][9][10][11][12]
在莎士比亚和萨缪尔·艾尔兰都将赫恩当做一个真实存在的历史人物来描述。因为根据传说，猎人赫恩可能是亨利八世时一个叫做理查德·赫恩（Richard Horne）的自耕农的幽灵，此人因在树林中非法狩猎而被捕。最早支持这个说法的人是詹姆斯·哈利韦尔-菲利普斯。[13]
