球孢子菌属

球孢子菌属（学名：Coccidioides）是子囊菌门爪甲团囊菌科的一个属，最早于1892年由阿根廷医师亚历杭德罗·波萨达斯在一名被感染的军人身上样本中观察到，1986年Gilchrist与Rixford将致病的病原取名为Coccidioides immitis（即粗球霉菌），属名意为“与球虫亚纲相似”。1990年Ophüls与Moffitt证明此病原为真菌而非原虫。2002年分子序列分析结果将粗球霉菌中分出了一新种波萨达斯球孢子菌，种小名即为纪念波萨达斯[2]。

本属物种为双态性真菌，其中粗球霉菌和波萨达斯球孢子菌可以无性的关节孢子感染人类，造成山谷热（球孢子菌病），为北美洲西南部的一种真菌病[3]。这两个物种外观与实验室检测的结果均相同[4]，需以DNA序列分别，两者的分布的地理区域亦有差异，大致以蒂哈查皮山为界[5]，粗球霉菌主要分布于美国加州，在亚利桑那州与墨西哥下加利福尼亚州亦有分布；波萨达斯球孢子菌则分布于美国德克萨斯州、亚利桑那州、墨西哥北部和中南美洲的部分地区[6]。
