白背鸭

白背鸭（学名Thalassornis leuconotus）是鸭科的一种涉禽。它们与其他的鸭有所分别，最为接近的是树鸭亚科，且与硬尾鸭亚科有一些相似。它们是白背鸭属下的唯一物种。

白背鸭很适合潜水。它们甚至可以潜在水中达半分钟之久。它们特别喜欢睡莲科的芽。当遇见危险时，它们也会倾向潜入水中。
白背鸭分布在南部非洲，尤其是介乎塞内加尔及西边的乍得和东边的埃塞俄比亚和南非。它们栖息在湖泊、池塘及沼泽等，可以完美的伪装在当中而不受掠食者骚扰。
白背鸭有两个亚种：Thalassornis leuconotus leuconotus及Thalassornis leuconotus insularis。估计前者的数量约有10000-25000只。[2][3]后者只生活在马达加斯加，因猎杀、失去栖息地及入侵物种而濒危。研究发现在西马达加斯加的Antsamaka湖上只有37只Thalassornis leuconotus insularis；[4]以往估计它们的数量有2500-5000只[5]则显得过于乐观。[6]白背鸭是《非洲-欧亚大陆迁徙水鸟保护协定》所保护的物种之一。
