英国手语
英国使用的手语
英国手语（British Sign Language，缩写：BSL）是一门在英国使用的手语，主要有约125,000英国成人和约20,000儿童会使用这种语言。[2] 2011年据威尔士和英格兰的聋人报告，两地使用英国手语为主要语言的人数为15,000。[3]

英国聋哑人社群使用手语的记录可以追溯至1570年，英国手语就是通过对这些原始手语进行改良而成的。[4][5] 直到1940年代为止英国聋哑学校里还主要强调教授读唇法和手指拼写，而不鼓励使用手语。1970年代开始宽容度才逐渐提高，不过由于老一辈和年轻一辈所学不同而造成了交流问题。[6]
英国手语与美国手语差异极大，相对于几乎完全一致的口语（即英语）来说，手语中的完全相同的表达只有31%，同族的表达有44%。[7] 此外英国手语与爱尔兰手语也不一样。英国手语使用主体-评论结构，[8] 标准语序是宾主动，名词短语中心语前置。[9]
