摘要

描述
English: Lutheran Theological Seminary-Old Dorm on the NRHP since May 3, 1974. On Seminary Ridge, Lutheran Theological Seminary campus in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Also known as Schmucker Hall after the Seminary's first president Dr. Samuel Sim Schmucker and is home to the Adams County Historical Society.

This building played an important role in the Battle of Gettysburg, in particular the cupola. Union Generals Buford and Reynolds used the cupola to view the battlefield and terrain and as a signal post on the first day of the battle. On the 2nd and 3rd days aides to Confederate General Lee did the same thing, and Union cannon focused on the building as a result. This building is near the center of the Confederate line on Seminary Ridge. The cupola was struck by lightning in 1914 and immediately replaced according to the original plans. Note that the "Old Dorm" at Gettysburg College maybe a mile north was also used as an observation and signaling point during the battle, but my reading of the NRHP nominations is that this building was the more important.

Building was also used as a hospital for about 600 Union and Confederate soldiers during and after the battle.
