Flipkart由德里印度理工学院校友萨钦·班萨尔（Sachin Bansal）和宾尼·班萨尔（Binny Bansal）成立于2007年，主要做图书销售，而在此之前他们曾为Amazon.com打工，积攒了经验。2007年10月正式成立时称“Flipkart Online Services Pvt. Ltd.”。[8] 经过兼并收购WeRead等竞争对手，成为印度最大的电子商务公司之一。
2017年8月5日完成与eBay印度业务（eBay.in）的合并。
2018年5月9日沃尔玛为主导的财团以160亿美元收购Flipkart约77％股权，其余股份由Flipkart共同创办人班萨尔、腾讯、微软、老虎全球管理公司等股东持有。
2018年11月，沃尔玛将Flipkart股权增加到81.3％
