盖亚在线（Gaia Online）是一个英语的日本动画论坛，成立于2003年2月18日。[1][2] 2004年由go-gaia改名为GaiaOnline。 最初只有一些动漫的超链接，并逐渐慢慢发展成出社群，[2] 后来由创始人Derek Liu（用户名“Lanzer”）提议，转向社交游戏发展，[3] 最终才形成论坛式网站。[4][5] 现已有超过一百万帖子，[4] 每月有七百万独立用户浏览，[6] 注册用户数达到二千六百万。2007年获得Webware 100社区类奖。[7]

盖亚在线使用的虚拟货币称为“Gaia Gold”，通常简称gold。用户可以通过浏览、发帖、玩游戏和参与社群活动来获得这种货币。通过Daily Chance，用户每天也可以得到不定量gold。
2007年7月盖亚在线发布了另一种货币，即Gaia Cash，此货币可以用现实的货币来购买，即1美元等于100Gaia cash。在来爱德、沃尔玛、Target、7-11、Speedway SuperAmerica、Blockbuster LLC和GameStop的商店都可以买到Gaia cash卡。此卡分作10美元和25美元两种。2010年6月21日，7-11停止出售10美元卡。[8] 此外通过手机支付或登陆盖亚论坛等其他方式也可以购买这种卡。[9] 2010年9月13日，盖亚在线引入AutoCash以提供Gaia Cash定期充值服务。[10]
