• 2024-06-27：为了提高维基百科的阅读体验，现时未登入用户的预设字体大小已增加（更改为“标准”选项），已登入用户维持不变，同时向所有用户提供新的外观选单，以便调整字体大小及内容宽度。此修改仅影响使用 Vector 2022（预设外观）的用户。参见相关讨论。
• 2024-06-27：维基媒体运动宪章的批准投票已开始，至7月9日23:59（UTC）完结。运动宪章皆在定义在维基媒体运动内的价值观、持分者的角色和责任，同时将创建新的决策机构“全球理事会”（Global Council），来取代基金会现有部分职能。

Edit check experiment results

We recently tested References Check at your wiki, so as at 10 other wikis. This feature encourages newcomers and IP users to add citations when they add a new paragraph on Wikipedia.

We tested this feature at your wiki between February 18 and April 4, 2024. We gave References Check to 50% of new accounts and IP users, while the remaining 50% got the regular experience, with no encouragement. This way, we were able to compare the experience for the two groups.

What was found?

Reference Check caused an increase in the quality of edits newcomers publish and did not cause any significant disruption. on average, 19% of users were adding a reference without being asked to. When References Check encourages them to add a citation, the percentage increases to 42.4%. On mobile, users add references 4.2 times more than on desktop when they are encouraged to.

For your wiki specifically, on average, 26.6% of users were adding a reference without being asked to. When References Check encourages them to add a citation, the percentage increases to 57.6%, one of the best percentages we got.

We published the detailed results, and you can ask me if you have any more question about it.

What is next?

Given the good results, we ended the A/B est and deployed References Check for all beginners and IPs at your wiki.

We are also working on a a new Check, a new encouragement for IPs and newcomers. We are looking for ideas for this next step. In your opinion, what could be useful to explain to beginners when they start editing?

As I said before, it is recommended that displaying reminders, which include information about our policy, when users select the "No" option (See my detailed suggestions in the previous discussion). Moreover, some users often translate articles from other language Wikipedia, where the content may not have references (e.g. Special:Diff/82953754). • User:Teester/EntityShape.js - a userscript that adds an input box to a Wikidata page wherein you can enter an EntitySchema (such as E10). When you click "Check", checks whether each statement and property conforms to the schema. It then displays a summary at the top of the Item for each property indicating whether they conform or not. It also adds a badge to each statement and each property on the page indicating whether they conform or not.

Hello all,

A special election has been called to fill additional vacancies on the U4C. The call for candidates phase is open from now through July 19, 2024.

The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Community members are invited to submit their applications in the special election for the U4C. For more information and the responsibilities of the U4C, please review the U4C Charter.

In this special election, according to chapter 2 of the U4C charter, there are 9 seats available on the U4C: four community-at-large seats and five regional seats to ensure the U4C represents the diversity of the movement. No more than two members of the U4C can be elected from the same home wiki. Therefore, candidates must not have English Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, or Italian Wikipedia as their home wiki.

Development

• IP masking: The feature was rolled out to test wikis and we fixed a few issues uncovered by this.
• EntitySchemas: We are working to make it possible to search for the EntitySchema by its label and aliases when making a new statement linking to an EntitySchema (phab:T362005)
• Integration in other Wikimedia projects: We are working on moving the Wikidata Item link from the tools section of the sidebar (phab:T66315)
• REST API:
  • We changed the data-type field to data_type in JSON responses (phab:T368130)
  • We are continuing the work on improving error handling and messages

Growth News, July 2024

Community Configuration

The Growth team released Community Configuration at all Wikipedias. You can access it at Special:CommunityConfiguration.

This new special page replaces Special:EditGrowthConfig. For now, all Growth features can be configured using Community Configuration. Configuration for AutoModerator (T365046) and other features will be available in the future.

You can help with translations. The interface translation is done at Translatewiki.net. You can also help translate the documentation.

Current work

Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module

We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.

Future work

Increase constructive activation on mobile

As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.

Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.
