摘要

描述
English: After the Chicago Civil Aviation Agreement was signed in 1944, it become necessary to establish an international airport in İstanbul. A project was prepared in 1947 to improve the Yeşilköy Airport, which despite being used mainly for military activity had managed a limited number of civil flights since 1933. The new facility opened in 1953. As air traffic increased, the airport once again became too limited in its capacity. In 1971 Hayati Tabanlıoğlu designed a masterplan comprising four terminal buildings along with technical facilities and parking lots. The master plan wasn’t fully realized but the new terminal building was opened in 1983. Named İstanbul Atatürk Airport in 1985, the facility with new additions was reopened in 2000.
