吕振原
吕振原（1931年—2008年1月8日[1]）是一个琵琶演奏家、古琴演奏家、作曲家、中国音乐教育家及音乐学者，以演奏及创作琵琶和古琴音乐闻名，将中国音乐带进西方世界。

早年生活 编辑
吕振原出生于上海，其父亲及祖父都是音乐爱好者。[2] 十岁时开始学习琵琶及古琴，[3][4]其古琴老师为吴景略及侯作吾二人。[5]
音乐生涯展开 编辑
吕振原1953年毕业于上海的大学。1954年时前往香港工作，[2]并在音乐会或广播上演出。[4]他在1957年为了帮忙朋友的公司而搬家至巴西，[2]并在巴西的电视上公开表演，曾受巴西的教育部邀请演出，并参加了1958年的圣保罗音乐节。[4]
1959年时，吕振原决定离开商业圈，他觉得比起成功的商人，自己宁愿成为一个贫穷的音乐家。他前往美国进行一系列的演出，以纽约卡内基大厅的音乐会作为开始。 他也为Lyrichord唱片公司录音，并在1960年推出第一张唱片Chinese Classical Masterpieces for the Pipa and Chin。[8] 1961获邀至布朗大学、芝加哥大学、哥伦比亚大学、哈佛大学、普林斯顿大学、史丹佛大学、卫斯理大学及耶鲁大学等校。[2] 他也曾造访伦敦，为BBC录音，[4] 并且很快的以琵琶独奏大使的身份在西方世界闻名。[7]
他很快地爱上美国流行的Exotica音乐，并且在拉斯维加斯的"Oriental Holiday"登台演出。[9]他也采用西方作曲方法为琵琶创作，像是移植英格兰民谣〈绿袖子〉。[10][11] 他曾在Pacifica Radio、PBS和Steve Allen Show演出。[2]
教学及职业生涯 编辑
1961年三月，吕振原获聘在加州大学洛杉矶分校的民族音乐学和系统音乐学学院任教，教授中国音乐、中国古典乐舞和戏曲。[2] 1964年，开设中国音乐史和中国音乐理论等课程。[3]除了教学，他也在古根汉美术馆、好莱坞露天剧场、国会图书馆 (美国)及欧洲演出，并在1960年代推出了五张专辑。[2]美国弦乐教师协会赞助吕振原和古典吉他演奏家 安德烈斯·塞戈维亚一同演出。[3]在1960年代晚期，吕振原偶尔会参与摇滚音乐，例如和杰瑞·李·刘易斯、Sweetwater及门户合唱团合作。[12]
除了演奏传统曲目，吕振原也为琵琶创作新的乐曲，[4]为七部好莱坞电影及中国电影进行配乐。[2] 他在1967年造访日本、夏威夷、台湾及香港等地。[4] 1972年和香港歌手，同时也是广东音乐家吕文成之女的吕红相识并结婚。1973年，吕振原的弟弟吕培原在加利福尼亚大学柏克莱分校、布朗大学和洛约拉马利蒙特大学等校讲授中国传统音乐之后，[13]也来到洛杉矶，[6] 二人经常同台演出。[14]

吕振原在2008年1月过世，他的家人在2016年以他为名设立了一个20,000美元的奖学全。[3]
