巨细胞病毒属（学名：Cytomegalovirus，简称CMV）是疱疹病毒目乙型疱疹病毒亚科的一个属，包括感染人类与其他灵长类（猿猴）的病毒，其中感染人类的人巨细胞病毒（又称人疱疹病毒五型）是本属病毒中被研究最深入的[3]

CMV感染一般发生在唾液腺[4]，感染健康人通常不造成明显症状，但对HIV感染者、接受器官移植者及新生儿等免疫缺乏的人可能致命[5]。有5%至7%的传染性单核白血球增多症为CMV感染所致[6]。感染后CMV可能长期潜伏于体内[4]。
本属病毒与其他疱疹病毒一样为具有包膜的双股DNA病毒，包膜上有许多糖蛋白可与宿主细胞表面的受体结合造成感染；病毒颗粒为正二十面体，直径约150至200奈米，基因组为不分段的线性DNA，长约20万bp[7][8]。
