巴格达铁路

巴格达铁路（英语：Baghdad railway，土耳其语：Bağdat Demiryolu，德语：Bagdadbahn，阿拉伯语：سكة حديد بغداد‎，法语：Chemin de Fer Impérial Ottoman de Bagdad），又称“柏林－巴格达铁路”，是一条由1903年至1940年间兴建，连接柏林与当时奥斯曼帝国巴格达的铁路，以便德国人在波斯湾建立港口，当中有1600公里路线通过现时土耳其、叙利亚和伊拉克地区。

工程的完工花了几十年，到了第一次世界大战爆发时，铁路仍距离目标超过960公里。最后到达巴格达的铁路在1930年代末兴建，而首班由伊斯坦布尔到巴格达的列车在1940年开行。

资金、工程和建设主要由德意志帝国的主要银行德意志银行和公司菲利普·霍兹曼提供，该公司在1890年代兴建了安纳托利亚铁路，连接君士坦丁堡、安卡拉和科尼亚。奥斯曼帝国希望维持控制阿拉伯半岛，并扩展其影响力到红海，到名义上属于奥斯曼（直至1914年）的埃及赫迪夫，但本身自1882年乌拉比叛变后就受英国军事统治。如果铁路完工，德国将可取得美索不达米亚的疑似油田，同时也连接波斯湾的巴士拉港。后者将可为德国殖民帝国东部提供直接连结，并避开了由英法控制的苏伊士运河。

铁路在第一次世界大战后马上成为一系列国际纷争的来源。虽然有人认为这些纷争在1914年战争开始前已经解决，但也有人认为铁路本身是第一次世界大战爆发原因。托鲁斯山脉遇上的技术困难和外交问题意味着到了1915年铁路仍有480公里未兴建，严重限制了战争期间英国占领巴格达时的用处，而南面的汉志铁路则被汤玛斯·爱德华·劳伦斯带领的游击队攻击。工程在1930年代恢复并在1940年完工。
