该科的化石发现于白垩纪晚期之后，最早的化石包括在加利福尼亚科尼亚克阶-麦斯里希特阶发现的Archaeopus antennatus，和在日本土仑阶-麦斯特里希特阶发现的Archaeopus ezoensis。[6]
