极鳄龙属

极鳄龙属（学名Aristosuchus）是美颌龙科恐龙的一个属，是种小型的虚骨龙类恐龙。其属名是由古希腊文的“ąριστον”（即勇敢、极度、最尊贵之意）及“σουχος”（埃及神话中的鳄鱼头神祇索贝克的古希腊文讹称）而来。它们有着很多鸟类的特征。

极鳄龙是双足肉食性的兽脚亚目恐龙。极鳄龙被估计约2米长，体重估计约30公斤。它们的化石是在英格兰怀特岛被发现，被估计是属于下白垩纪的地层，即距今约1亿2500万年前。
极鳄龙与近亲美颌龙在外形及体形上很相似，有些学者甚至提出它们是同一属。理查德·莱德克（Richard Lydekker）将极鳄龙与簧椎龙产生混淆，因为他错误以为威廉·达尔文·福克斯（William Darwin Fox）曾在1866年将簧椎龙重新命名。德恩·奈许（Darren Naish）根据其耻骨特征，提出极鳄龙是美颌龙科的有效属。极鳄龙的正模标本（编号BMNH R178）有荐骨、耻骨、股骨及几块脊椎。股骨的前粗隆部形状如翼般，第四粗隆部明显缩小。在附近也发现两块有趾爪的趾骨，也有可能是来自同一个体。
极鳄龙的模式种是小极鳄龙（A. pusillis），是由理察·奥云（Richard Owen）在1876年所发表、命名，当时被归类在杂肋龙下的一种“Poekilopleuron pusillus”[1]。种名在拉丁文意为“小的”。在1887年，哈利·丝莱（Harry Govier Seeley）将这个种更名为极鳄龙[2]。
