2021年3月，康妮·尼尔森表示有意在《小人物》续集回归演出，并表示想深入探讨哈奇和贝卡的背景故事以及如何相遇[1]。2021年6月，据报导德瑞克·柯斯达正在编写续集的剧本，尽管尚未获片商正式亮起绿灯制作[2]。2022年3月，87North制片公司在社群媒体上宣布，制作公司期待制作《小人物2》，但当时尚未宣布正式的制作日期[3]。2021年8月，大卫·雷奇确认剧本正在撰写中，同时表示片商已承诺推出续集[4]。
