美国驻韩国大使

美国驻韩国大使（英语：United States Ambassador to South Korea；朝鲜语：주한미국대사／駐韓美國大使），是美国驻韩国的首席外交代表。该大使正式名称美利坚合众国驻大韩民国特命全权大使（英语：Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Korea）。[1]

1882年朝美条约谈判完成后，外交代表从华盛顿派往首尔。[2]直到1905年，有几位特使和总领事，每一位都领导一个所谓的公使馆。1895年日本击败清朝，1905年击败俄罗斯帝国之后，朝鲜的独立性开始消失。到1910年，日本吞并朝鲜，美国不再在朝鲜有外交存在。

大韩民国 编辑

二战结束时，美军在朝鲜南部接受日本投降，苏联军队在朝鲜北部接受日本投降。朝鲜统一政府谈判失败，1948年两个独立的朝鲜国家成立：大韩民国（韩国）和朝鲜民主主义人民共和国（朝鲜）。美国与韩国新政府建立外交关系，但不承认朝鲜。其他国家，如苏联，承认朝鲜的平壤政府，但最初并未与首尔的韩国政府建立关系。

自1948年以来，美国与韩国一直保持持续的外交关系，并于1949年1月1日正式承认大韩民国。美国特别代表约翰·J·穆乔（英语：John J. Muccio）于1949年3月1日任首任驻大韩民国大使。[6]
