2021年6月，漫威影业宣布除了《假如…？》之外，还计划为Disney+开发至少三部系列动画片[3][4]。2021年8月，多部系列动画片处于不同的开发阶段，最早于2023年首播[5]。2021年11月，漫威确定制作系列动画片《蜘蛛侠：一年级生》（Spider-Man: Freshman Year），杰夫·川默（Jeff Trammel）担当首席编剧和执行制片人[6]。

查理·纽纳（Charlie Neuner）担当编剧[7]。系列动画片探索漫威电影宇宙中“蜘蛛侠”彼得·帕克的起源故事，这些故事没有展现于漫威电影宇宙系列电影之中[8]。蜘蛛侠在2016年电影《美国队长3》中首次出现于漫威电影宇宙[8]，漫威影业总裁凯文·费奇在2015年表示，由于此前山姆·雷米执导的《蜘蛛侠三部曲》和马克·韦布执导的《惊奇再起系列》已经讲述过蜘蛛侠的起源故事，漫威不会在《美国队长3》中重复讲述[9]。
