赫尔曼·法夫
赫尔曼·法夫（英语：Herman Jan Phaff；1913年5月30日—2001年8月24日[2]）是出生于荷兰的美国真菌学家、加利福尼亚大学戴维斯分校教授，他的专业领域为酵母菌，职业生涯中收集了上千种酵母菌菌株，并发表了约60种酵母菌的分类单元[3]。

赫尔曼·法夫于1913年出生于荷兰温斯霍滕，其父母经营一酒庄，因此法夫自幼即对用于酿酒与发酵的微生物感兴趣。法夫毕业于台夫特高等技术学院（今台夫特理工大学），主修化学工程，学士论文主题为真菌的果胶酶，指导教授为阿尔贝特·克吕沃尔[3]。毕业后法夫在克吕沃尔推荐下赴美国柏克莱加利福尼亚大学攻读博士学位[4]，他一度在埃米尔·木拉克的实验室做研究并受其影响甚深[3][4][5]，后来他以梅纳德·乔斯林与霍瑞斯·巴克为指导教授，于1943年获博士学位，论文主题为酵母菌的分类、生态与生理[3][4][6]。
获博士学位后，法夫初在柏克莱加利福尼亚大学食品科学系任教，后于1954年随食品科学系转移至至加利福尼亚大学戴维斯分校，他与学生阿诺德·德曼、合作者陆伯勋等人共同发表数篇酵母菌主题的论文[3][4][7][8]。1983年法夫名义上自大学退休，但仍维持其实验室并每日进行研究工作[4]。法夫曾担任《细菌学期刊》、《加拿大微生物学期刊》与《国际系统与演化微生物学期刊》等学术期刊的编辑[3]。
法夫毕生收集了自世界各地动物、植物与土壤样本上采集的超过6000个酵母菌菌株，包括超过400种物种，现名为法夫酵母培养收藏（Phaff Yeast Culture Collection），为酵母菌分类研究的重要资源[4][9]。截至2022年，法夫酵母培养收藏已有超过9000个菌株，包括超过1000种物种，其中80%的菌株无法自其他来源取得[10]。

在学术研究之外，法夫是戴维斯喜歌剧公司（Davis Comic Opera Company）与加利福尼亚大学戴维斯分校交响乐团（UC Davis symphony orchesta）的创始成员，1959年曾在后者的开幕音乐会演奏[4]。

法夫发表的分类单元包括黑迪氏毕赤酵母（Pichia heedii）[11]、加勒比毕赤酵母（Pichia caribaea）[12]、Candida caseinolytica[13]、Pichia deserticola、Candida deserticola[14]、Pichia scutulata[15]、Saccharomycopsis fermentans[16]、Sporobolomyces singularis、Bullera tsugae、Cryptococcus skinneri、俄勒冈念珠菌（Candida oregonensis）[17]与白冬孢酵母属（Leucosporidium）[18]等。
纪念 编辑
1976年发表的担子菌门酵母菌属红法夫酵母属[19]，以及1997年发表的子囊菌门酵母菌属法夫菌属学名皆为向赫尔曼·法夫对酵母菌分类的研究致敬[20]。
2003年，欧洲微生物学会联合会（FEMS）举办的一场研讨会以赫尔曼·法夫为名[21] 。
