斗牛犬蚁亚科
斗牛犬蚁亚科（Myrmeciinae）隶属于蚁科，曾经广布世界，但现在只分布于新喀里多尼亚及澳洲，该亚科的工蚁可以交配和繁殖，他们能在蚁后死后继续维持群体存活[2]。斗牛犬蚁亚科早期只有一个属斗牛犬蚁属（Myrmecia），2003年时 Ward 和 Bardy 重新描述了该亚科，并将其增加至2族4属[3]；2006年从早使新世的丹麦、加拿大及华盛顿中描述了4属9种，其中1属由地位未名的物种组成[4]。

斗牛犬蚁亚科是由意大利昆虫学家 Carlo Emery 于1877年建立，起初的名字是 Myrmeciidae[5]，以该亚科的模式属斗牛犬蚁属命名[6]，1882年，该亚科被法国昆虫学家 Ernest André 更动为 Myrmicidae 科（蚁科的前身）下的一个族，但在1905年被移动到针蚁亚科下[7][8]。
