Encyclopedia.com由Infonautics于1998年3月推出[2]。Infonautics于2001年为Tucows收购[3]。2002年8月，帕特里克·斯佩恩从Tucows收购Encyclopedia.com及其姊妹站点eLibrary，并将其并入新成立的Alacritude有限责任公司[4]。该业务后称HighBeam Research，最终为Gale买下[5][6]。Encyclopedia.com现由总部位于芝加哥的公司HighBeam Research营运，该公司为参考书出版商Gale的子公司，Gale则为Cengage的子公司[7][5]。
内容 编辑
Encyclopedia.com允许用户从数种百科全书与辞典来源访问一个主题的信息[8]，有近20万篇条目与5万个主题摘要，集结了来自牛津大学出版社、《哥伦比亚百科全书》、母公司Gale等的网络百科全书及条目[9][10]。
