GD 165是由一颗白矮星和一颗棕矮星组成的联星系统，它们的光谱是 DA4[2] + L4,[3]，位于牧夫座，距离地球大约103光年[3]。

伴星的发现 编辑
GD 165 B是在1988年被Becklin和Zuckerman[5]发现的。它是第一颗L-型的棕矮星，并且是第一颗被发现温度比M矮星[6]低的天体。但是，一直到1990年代，其他的天体也被发现，从葛利泽229B开始之后，它才被确认是一颗棕矮星[7][8]。
伴星光谱类型的赋予 编辑
最初，它的光谱暂时被分配为≥M10，但是在1999年，柯克派翠克（Kirkpatrick）等人创立了新的光谱类型L和T，为新近发现温度比M型更低的天体分类，GD 165B被重新归类为L4。
距离 编辑
目前，对GD 165的距离最精确的估计是由van Altena等人所出版的YPC三角视差。在1995年：31.7 ± 2.5 mas，相当于31.5+2.7
−2.3 秒差距，或 102.9+8.8
−7.5 光年[3]。
