词源

“锡莱市”这之词源是由于增长在该地区的某一棵树名. “kansilay”是本市的正式代表树.

简史

锡莱市是在1565年最早被定居，原名为“carobcob”在当地的希利盖侬语就是“胸腔”之意。

在1571年1月25日，锡莱乡村成了西班牙殖系统的一个监护征赋制之内。 1760年时，锡莱成了城市地位。到了1896年， 锡莱市已成为主要产糖区，这是由于该糖厂兴建的法国人成为了永久居民伊夫利·奥波德尔曼的功劳。

菲律宾国旗首次被提出本市是在1898年十一月五日的当天下午, 因为驻扎在该城的西班牙士兵投降给围困的田园劳动者与地主军人。

于2003年六月七日，锡莱市成为第一个，也算是唯一的地方政府单位，而在整个菲律宾举行全民投票通过“人民倡议”, 批准了2003年度财政预算执行。

今天锡莱市是在菲律宾的第25个旅游景点之一，也成为西比萨亚地区艺术、文化及生态旅游的所在地。
