編輯Gérard Diffloth在一份1980年的論文中構擬了原始佤語,他給出的系屬分類如下(Sidwell 2009)。
撣邦其他佤語支語言還有嗯語(En)和薩姆語(Siam、Hsem),[4][5]見Scott (1900)[6]。Hsiu (2015)[7]將Scott (1900)中的嗯語(En)、頌語(Son)和蒙雷語歸為佤語支,並歸納佤語支的共同創新為原始佤德昂語*s->h-。
Jackson T.-S. Sun(2020)對 拉維瓦語(Lavïa) 進行了研究,分佈在雲南和緬甸邊境兩側,[8]
