15号染色体是人类23对染色体中的一对,正常人拥有2条15号染色体。15号染色体缠绕了约1亿100万碱基对(构筑DNA的材料),并包含了人类细胞中约3%至3.5%的DNA。每条染色体上的基因识别是遗传研究活跃的领域。因为研究人员使用不同的方法来进行对于每一条染色体基因数目的预测,而基因数目的估计会有所变化。15号染色体的基因数目有可能介于700个至900个[2]。
