山达基教会有着一系列掩护机构但从名称及运作上不透露其与山达基教会的联系。教会利用这些幌子机构来促进其政治利益、使自己显得合理合法并透过这些机构招募成员。英国《泰晤士报》发表文章称，“[教会通过出版、咨询、医疗保健甚至补习教育等行业的广泛前沿团体来吸引]粗心的人”。许多团体都是建立在伪科学的基础上，名称不诚实，并且淡化了他们与山达基教的联系。
掩护机构可以分为四类：
- 这些机构是山达基组织网络的一部分，并在山达基教会内直接管理，但其名称掩盖了这种联系，
- 那些在“世俗”子公司下运作但仍在山达基教会内管理或监督的公司，
