苏尼尔·巴帕伊
苏尼尔·巴帕伊(英语:Sunil Bajpai,1961年9月30日—)是印度理工学院罗克分校地球科学系脊椎动物古生物学讲座教授。于1996年1月1日至2026年9月30日担任印度理工学院罗克分校教授[1]。2013年1月至2018年7月,他担任比尔巴尔·萨尼古科学研究所所长[2]。

编辑巴帕伊主要研究印度新生代脊椎动物,专注于鲸鱼和海牛等海洋哺乳动物[4][5][6][7]。巴帕伊和他的合作者在古吉拉特邦库奇和喜马拉雅山的始新世发现的化石有助于了解鲸鱼是如何进化的[4][5]。巴帕伊也研究陆地哺乳动物,其中包括马、偶蹄目动物和灵长类动物的早期代表,如奇蹄目中的Cambaytheriidae、偶蹄目中的Gujaratia、灵长类动物中的兔猴科Marcgodinotius和偶蹄目Vastanomys[8][9][10][9]。此外,他也研究过许多其他脊椎动物化石,如鲨鱼、多骨鱼类、青蛙、蛇、蜥蜴、食虫动物、啮齿类动物等[11][12][13]。他也参与印度德干火山省白垩纪-古新世动物群的研究,以及这些动物群对了解印度板块北移的影响[14]。
2023年,巴帕伊及其同事报告了印度西部拉贾斯坦邦杰伊瑟尔梅尔的塔尔沙漠中发现的印度第一只叉龙科恐龙——印度塔尔龙。化石出土于侏罗纪中期的杰伊瑟尔梅尔地层露头。这个类群可能代表该类群已知最古老的记录,结合先前已知的印度侏罗纪早期的蜥脚下目恐龙(巨脚龙、科塔龙)来看,现在的印度可能是新蜥脚类恐龙进化的主要中心[15]。
