英国英格兰城市

利兹(英语:Leeds 聆听i/ˈldz/),台湾译里兹,香港译列斯英国英格兰西约克郡的大城市。依傍艾尔河(River Aire)旁的利兹,利兹市(City of Leeds)是行政中枢所在地。2011年预计有757,700人[4][5],使其成为英国第三大城市[4][5]

利兹的历史可以追溯到公元前五世纪的艾尔麦特王国(Elmet),这个古王国的领土上有一片名为“Loidis”的森林,这即是“Leeds”一名的起源。随后的数个世纪中统治者不断更迭,13世纪形成现在的格局。17和18世纪的利兹是英国的羊毛生产交易中心。工业革命时发展成为工业城,亚麻织造、铸铁、印刷等渐渐取代了羊毛织造业的地位。[6]

现在的利兹是Gamma级全球城市[7],是西约克郡都会区的文化、金融和商业中心[8][9][10][11]。利兹有四所大学,全市的学生人口超过了二十五万。

语源学 编辑

“Leeds”一名来覆盖古王国艾尔麦特大部分地区的森林“Loidis”,这片森林存在于五世纪到七世纪早期。[12] 比德在《英吉利教会史》第十四章曾提到“Loidis”。利兹人在当地称“Loiner”,这个词的具体起源不详。[13]

早期 编辑

利兹早中世纪时代已有史实记载。当时利兹乃一个农产品交易市场,专门销售羊毛制品[14]。十七世纪末利兹人口有一万人,十八世纪末增至三万人。1770年时利玆的出口额占整个英格兰的六分之一[15]。1699年和1816年分别有艾尔-科尔德通航运河利兹和利物浦运河建成[16]

工业革命期间,利兹开始成为工业城市。1834年开始有利玆和希尔比铁路(Leeds and Selby Railway)贯通[17]。当时已有纺织业、化工、皮革和陶瓷,并且是采煤中心。但同时农产品贸易也仍占据一定的市场份额,1864年利玆谷物交易所成立。

现代 编辑

二次大战以降利兹制造业开始式微。1951年仍有一半人口从事制造业,但1971年只剩下三成;1971-81年间已流失了三成制造业职位。但是仍有一些大型工程公司设于利兹市。[18].

今天,利兹作为在西约克郡占支配地位的区域中心城市,而被列为8个英格兰核心城市之一。[19]

利兹属于海洋性气候,气温较低,平均温度为16 °C(61 °F),但全年起伏不大,30 °C(86 °F)以上高温和−10 °C(14 °F)以下低温都比较罕见[20]。虽然气候较为温和,但偶尔也有暴雪或其他极端天气出现。[21]

利兹被英国官方评为英国营商环境最佳城市,主要以服务业为主流。以往利兹的制造业,早在二次大战以后式微。利兹尤其以金融业称著,地位仅次于首都伦敦。利玆有超过30家银行,其中First Direct约克郡银行的总部位于此地[23]。而其主要的服务业包括零售、客户中心、写字楼和传媒机构。

交通 编辑

由于利兹市位处英国中部,属内陆地区,铁路系统对利兹交通,仍有举足轻重的影响。利兹站位于市中心南面,英国的铁路主干线之一东海岸主线途径此站,另外亦有两条铁路路线直通首都伦敦,一般班次为半小时至一小时一班。国家其他地方利兹市也有贯通,包括到西约克郡等等。同时利兹市也有多条道路网连接英国各大城市,如A58A61A62A63A64A65公路等等。航空则依靠利兹布拉德福德机场

旅游 编辑

旅游是利兹的一大产业,制造了二万个职位。平均计利兹市可吸纳一百四十万人过夜,每人消费加起来,差不多已有7亿三千五百万英镑。主要游客都是到来参观利兹市的文化景色。

利兹市被英国国家广播公司(BBC)选为“英国最受欢迎城市”。

利兹是英格兰老牌球会利兹联的所在地,利兹联英格兰第一间球会,1968年夺得欧洲博览会杯冠军。
