南极条约邮票
南极条约邮票（英语：Antarctic Treaty issue）是由霍华德·科斯洛设计、美国邮政部于1971年6月23日发行之邮票，纪念《南极条约》生效十周年。这也是科斯洛设计的第一款邮票。

南极条约邮票之面值为8美分，发行量约一亿三千万张。
背景 编辑
1959年12月1日，美国与其他十一个在国际地球物理年期间活跃于南极洲科学研究之国家签订了《南极条约》，1961年生效[1]。
1968年11月18日至29日，第五次《南极条约》协商会议在法国巴黎召开[2]，会中建议各缔约国发行《南极条约》生效十周年纪念邮票[3]。
发行 编辑
南极条约邮票之发行于1971年5月公告，6月23日（即《南极条约》生效十周年当日）正式发行[4][5]。官方同时在华盛顿哥伦比亚特区举行了首日封典礼，时任美国国务卿威廉·罗杰斯、邮政部部长温顿·布朗特及《南极条约》各缔约国驻美国大使皆与会；布朗特并致赠时任苏联驻美大使阿纳托利·多勃雷宁一本邮票册[5]。
南极条约邮票之发行量约一亿三千万张[6]。
南极条约邮票之样票（specimen）及拓样（plate proof）由美国国家邮政博物馆之国家集邮收藏持有[7][8]。2013年，美国邮政署在eBay上拍卖含有前邮政部部长布朗特手批字迹之拓样一张，此为部长集邮收藏中二张拓样之一[9]。该张拓样票最终拍得1,099.99美元[10]。
设计 编辑
南极条约邮票由美国著名邮票绘图师霍华德·科斯洛设计；这是他设计的第一款邮票[11][12][13]。邮票之设计取自于《南极条约》历次协商会议之文件，描绘白色之南极洲配以蓝色背景[14]。这也契合早先国际科学联合会理事会南极研究特别委员会于1965年做出建议《南极条约》生效十周年纪念邮票应突出显示南极洲地图之呼吁；鉴于当时各国对南极地区之领土主张，以南极洲地图为中心的单纯设计具备相当重要之政治考量[15]。

除美国以外，《南极条约》其他缔约国亦有发行条约生效十周年之纪念邮票[4]。
1991年《南极条约》生效三十周年之际，美国再次发行纪念邮票[16]。该邮票为航空邮件邮票，其面值为50美分，并由科斯洛回锅绘制；邮票之设计描绘冰川号破冰舰航行于罗斯岛附近海域[16][17]。
