井宿三(双子座γ)是双子座第三亮的恒星,英文的固有名称是AlhenaAlmeisan。它的视星等为1.9等[2],即使在城市区域也很容易就能以裸眼看见。依据依巴谷卫星测量的视差,它与地球的距离大约是109光年(33秒差距[1]

井宿三是一颗已经耗尽核心供应的氢,演化进入次巨星阶段的恒星。它的光谱与恒星分类的A0 IV相匹配[3]。相较于太阳,质量是2.8倍[6],半径是3.3倍[7],辐射的光度大约是太阳的123倍[7],从它外层的有效温度大约是9,260K[8],使它的色调成为一颗典型的白色星[11]

这是一颗分光联星,系统是有着高离心率开普勒轨道,周期12.6年(4,614.51天)[5]

语源

井宿三的英文名字Alhena出自阿拉伯的الهنعه Al Han'ah,意思为"头部"(骆驼的颈部);另一个备用的名字Almeisan 是阿拉伯语的المیسان Al Maisan,意思是闪耀的Al Hanʽah的名称与下列的恒星相关联,包括井宿一(双子座μ,Tejat Posterior)、井宿二(双子座ν)、(双子座η,Tejat Prior)和井宿四(双子座ξ,Alzirr)。它们也与Al Nuḥātai相关联,是有着双峰的骆驼[12]

Calendarium of Al Achsasi Al Mouakket这本恒星目录中,这颗恒星的名称是, Nir al Henat,是从拉丁文 Prima του al Henat翻过去的,意思是明亮的Al Henat[13]

中文井宿 (Jǐng Su)是中国的星官,类似于西方的星座,属于这个星官的有双子座γ、μ(井宿一)、ν(井宿二)、ξ(井宿四)、ε(井宿五)、36(井宿六)、ζ(井宿七)、λ(井宿八[14]。双子座γ是井宿三(Jǐng Su sān,意思就是井宿的第三颗星[15]

Alhena是一艘荷兰船只的名称,这艘船在1927年10月从意大利邮轮马法尔达公主号救出了许多人[16]。此外,美国的武装货船英语Amphibious cargo shipUSS Alhena (AKA-9)也以这颗恒星的名字命名。
