安东尼·霍普

安东尼·霍普·霍金斯爵士（Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins，1863年2月9日—1933年7月8日），英国小说家和剧作家[1]，名著为《曾达的囚徒》（1894年），构筑了虚构国家鲁里坦尼亚[2]，这部作品后来改编为《罗宫秘史》等多部电影。

霍普曾就读于莱瑟黑德圣约翰学校、牛津马尔伯勒学院和牛津大学贝利奥尔学院[3]，1882年获一等学位[4]。

霍普接受了律师培训，1887年被中殿律师学院授予律师资格，曾是H·H·阿斯奎斯的学生。阿斯奎斯认为他是一位有前途的律师，对他转向写作感到失望。[5]

他的第一部作品是自费出版的《A Man of Mark》（1890）。1893年，他写了三本小说，收录于1894年的《多莉谈话集》（The Dolly Dialogues） ，由亚瑟·拉克姆绘制插图[6]。

1893年底，他在伦敦散步时产生构思出《曾达的囚徒》故事，一个月内完成了初稿，于次年4月出版[7]。这部作品一炮而红，受到了安德鲁·朗格和罗伯特·路易斯·史蒂文森的赞扬[8]。

它的成功也迎促使霍普放弃了法律生涯，成为全职作家，但后来的作品都没有这部成功[9]。

霍普于1903年与伊丽莎白·萨默维尔（Elizabeth Somerville，1885/6–1946）结婚，育有两子一女。1918年，他获封下级勋位爵士。 [1]

霍普于70岁时因喉癌在萨里郡山边沃尔顿的希思农场（Heath Farm）去世[1]。
