社会人类学

人类学分支

社会人类学(Social anthropology)是人类学的主要分支,研究世界各地的不同社会的性质与差异。一般而言,社会人类学家的研究范围与对象大致与文化人类学相同,并且同样采用长期密集的田野调查(主要是参与观察法)进行研究。不过相较于文化人类学起源于美国,社会人类学发源于英国,并且以英国作为主要根据地,故有时称为“英国社会人类学”。社会人类学家强调借由扎实与稳固的田野调查探究特定人群的社会组织:其中包含风俗经济政治组织,法律与冲突调解,消费、交换、亲属与家庭结构的模式,性别关系,儿童养育与社会化宗教等等。

社会人类学也探索意义所扮演的角色、社会关系的模棱两可与矛盾、社会性的模式、暴力与冲突,以及社会行为的潜藏逻辑。社会人类学家的训练,是对于论述、仪式与象征行为的诠释,不仅将它们视为文本,而是将它们连结到行动、实践与历史脉络。社会人类学家主张,各种立场与观点的多样性,见诸于任何一个社会群体之中。

历史 编辑

社会人类学具有来自十九世纪许多学科的历史根源,包括民族学民俗学古典学及其他(参阅人类学史)。社会人类学的前身,在十九世纪晚期 爱德华·伯内特·泰勒詹姆斯·弗雷泽的作品中成型,并且在1890年到1920年间,历经多次在研究方法与理论上的重大变革,强调具原创性的田野工作、在自然场景中对于社会行为的长期全貌研究,并引进法国与德国的社会理论。

世界各地的许多大学设有社会人类学系。社会人类学这个领域的扩展速度超乎这个学科创立者的预期,例如这个学科的次领域结构与动力(Structure and Dynamics)。

1920年代到1940年 编辑

当代的社会人类学是在第一次世界大战之后,创立于英国伦敦政经学院。其影响力同时包括布朗尼斯劳·马凌诺斯基所带领的研究方法革命,他在1915年到1918年间,在美拉尼西亚超布连群岛采用过程取向的田野工作;以及阿弗列·芮克里夫-布朗的有系统比较研究的理论计划,这是依据严格的田野工作与涂尔干社会学结构功能论[1]。其他的知识先驱包括瑞弗斯(W. H. R. Rivers)与哈登(Alfred Court Haddon),他们的研究取向反映着威廉·冯特与巴斯典的当代俗民心理学(Volkerpsychologie);以及爱德华·伯内特·泰勒爵士,他依循孔德的主张,将人类学界定为实证科学。艾德蒙·李区将社会人类学界定为一种比较研究的微型社会学(comparative micro-sociology),它是植基于密集的田野工作研究。对于科学与社会的本质,从来都不存在着一种定于一尊的正统理论,而是经常存在着介于几种严重对立的观点之间的ㄧ个紧张关系。

1940年代至1980年代 编辑

二次世界大战之后,包含着民族志与民族学成分的社会文化人类学,分成美国学派的文化人类学,以及欧洲的社会人类学,这是借由挑战结构功能论,吸收来自李维史陀结构主义麦克斯·格拉克曼的曼彻斯特学派 (人类学),并吸纳对于冲突、变迁、都市人类学与网络等课题的研究。

1980年代至今 编辑

欧洲社会人类学家学会(European Association of Social Anthropologists,EASA)成立于1989年,来自14个欧洲国家的创始会员在一场会议倡议成立,成为一个学术社团,由温纳葛林人类学研究基金会(Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research)[1]页面存档备份,存于互联网档案馆)所支持。该会旨在借由组织两年一度的欧洲人类学会议,并借由编辑其学术期刊《社会人类学》(Social Anthropology/Anthropologie Sociale),来推动欧洲的人类学。
