仙王座W是在1865年被报告为变星,它的变光范围在7.3至8.3等[9]。它在1903年出版的波恩星表篇目为BD+57°2568,而在HD星表的序号是HD 214369。

在1925年,仙王座 W被列入Be星的表单中。它的光谱类型被认定为低温的Mep [10]。依据1949年的频谱,它被归类为K0ep Ia,但也被认为有一颗小的高温伴星,并加上不寻常的红外过量[11][12]。研究来自伴星的紫外线光谱吸收线,它的光谱被归类为B0-1[13]

系统

仙王座 W的系统包括一颗K型超巨星与一颗光谱类型为早期B型的非超巨星伴星。这颗恒星有不寻常的发射线,包括由含有尘埃和电离气体的星周包层产生的许可和禁制的FeII线[5]。使用斑点干涉解析出两颗成员相距0.262"[14]。已提出可能的轨道周期是2,090日[8]

变异性

仙王座 W的亮度变化从7等至9等。变星总表将它列为半规则变星,试图找出周期但是只显示随机的光度变化[15][16]
