穀物街 (布里斯托)

穀物街（Corn Street）是英格蘭城市布里斯托市中心的一條街道。它與寬街（Broad Street）、葡萄酒街（Wine Street）和高街（High Street）這四條街交匯於高十字架（High Cross）。這四條街一帶位於中世紀古城內，構成了布里斯托最早的核心[1]。而從穀物街向西南延伸的克萊爾街，則通往The Centre。

沿穀物街有許多歷史建築。穀物街位於舊城和皇后廣場保護區內。[2]許多世紀以來，這裏曾是布里斯托的商業和行政的中心，但近年來越來越多地轉向購物、休閒和住宿。許多銀行大樓和寫字樓現在已改為酒吧和餐館。

1479年的里卡特規劃，是英國最早的城鎮規劃之一，標出穀物街的一端是高十字架，另一端是聖倫納德門（St Leonard's Gate）。而三條交匯的街道也分別通往不同的城門[3]。

穀物街這個名字的起源最有可能是因為在這裏交易穀物。1813年，在布里斯托交易所開設了穀物市場，但這條街在13世紀初已稱為老穀物街，因此似乎最早就是在這條街買賣穀物。[4]

穀物街是從13世紀起的貿易中心，也是從18世紀起布里斯托銀行業務的核心。

宗教 編輯

在穀物街上曾經有三座教堂：聖倫納德堂（St Leonard's），位於穀物街西端的聖倫納德門（St Leonard's Gate），即西城門[5]；聖沃伯格堂（St Werburgh's Church），在小街的拐角處；[6] 以及諸聖堂 (布里斯托)（All Saints' Church），靠近與高街的拐角處。其中只有諸聖堂還在原處。

  • 布里斯托交易所（The Exchange）, 建於1741-43年，是老約翰•伍德設計的傑出公共建築。[7]前面有四張16世紀和17世紀的青銅桌子，是商人交易的地點。[8]
  • 諸聖堂 (布里斯托)（All Saints' Church）可能創建於諾曼征服之前。它通常不向公眾開放，但可以從門外一睹室內。[9]
