該基因編碼含有死亡效應結構域(DED)的蛋白質。DED是程式性細胞死亡途徑的銜接子調節子執行子共享的蛋白質相互作用域。該基因的過度表達被證明可誘導微弱的細胞凋亡。在刺激作用下,發現該蛋白從細胞質易位到細胞核,並與UBTF共定位在核仁中,UBTF是RNA聚合酶I轉錄所需的基礎因子。該基因至少有三種編碼相同蛋白質的轉錄變體。[8]
