恐龙皮肤
恐龙皮肤目前已发现许多兽脚亚目恐龙具有羽毛，包含：鸟面龙、中华龙鸟、帝龙[1][2][3]。另一群大型的兽脚类恐龙，镰刀龙超科，可能也具有羽毛；其中的北票龙似乎具有绒羽。但恐龙的羽毛痕迹大多发现于虚骨龙类）之中，所以无法从羽毛得知其他恐龙演化支的身体机能，例如：腔骨龙科、角鼻龙下目、肉食龙下目、蜥脚下目、与鸟臀目。从阿贝力龙科的食肉牛龙的化石化皮肤显示，该种恐龙并没有覆盖者羽毛，而是类似蜥蜴，上有多排瘤状物[4]。成年食肉牛龙的体重约一公吨，体重大于或等于食肉牛龙的哺乳类，身上不是光滑的皮肤，就是很短的毛发。因此无法从食肉牛龙得知较小的非虚骨龙类恐龙是否具有羽毛。
蜥脚下目中的畸形龙与某些物种的皮肤痕迹，已发现六角型的鳞片。而部分蜥脚类恐龙则具有骨板，例如萨尔塔龙[5]。角龙下目的三角龙，具有大型的六角型鳞片，有时散布者圆形鳞片[6]。鸭嘴龙科的一些木乃伊化标本，也覆盖者鳞片。包头龙等甲龙科恐龙，身体覆盖者骨质鳞甲与骨板，不太可能具有羽毛等覆盖物[7]。相同地，剑龙类也不太可能具有羽毛覆盖物，它们可能利用背部的角板来调节体温。
