出生于台湾,曾为美国西奈山医学中心微生物学、癌症中心、肿瘤科学系正教授,回台湾进入国家卫生研究院 (代理院长)、中央研究院院士[2],2012年当选TWAS (The Academy of Sciences for the developing world, TWAS发展中世界科学院)院士。主要研究癌症防治肿瘤学分子生物学。现为中国医药大学副校长暨中医学院中西医结合研究所讲座教授[3],国立台湾大学分子与细胞生物学研究所、国立中央大学生命科学系[4]与清华大学[5]兼任教授,同时也是美国华阳生命科学股份有限公司 (Sun Farm Corp.) 科学委员、亿康生物科技股份有限公司董事[6]
