大曼徹斯特郡位於英國英格蘭西北部，共有48座I級登錄建築。在英國，如果一座歷史遺蹟擁有特殊的建築史或文化底蘊，該歷史遺蹟將會被選為登錄建築，擁有特殊價值的歷史遺蹟則可被選為I級登錄建築。[1]英國監管局根據1990年登錄建築及保護區管理法[2]由一個受英國文化、媒體、體育部管理的非政府部門公共機構——Historic England管理。

大曼徹斯特郡是一座都市郡，分為10個都市自治市。

大曼徹斯特郡由博爾頓、貝里、曼徹斯特[a]、奧爾德姆、羅奇代爾、索爾福德、斯托克波特、坦姆賽德、特拉福德和威根10個都市自治市組成。每個都市自治市的I級登陸建築都由一個獨立的章節單獨列出。曼徹斯特是世界上的首個工業化城市，[3]也是大曼徹斯特郡I級登錄建築最多的城市（15座）。奧爾德姆是大曼徹斯特郡唯一一個沒有I級登錄建築的城市。[4]此外，厄韋爾河鐵路橋位於曼徹斯特和索爾福德的邊界線上，因此厄韋爾河鐵路橋是曼徹斯特和索爾福德的共有登錄建築。[5][6]

大部分大曼徹斯特郡的I級登錄建築始建於維多利亞和愛德華時期。[1]學術資源發現平台的資料顯示，大曼徹斯特郡是「英國工業和城市發展的典範之一，18至19世紀期間這裡發生了巨大的變化：人口的快速增長、工業強鎮的出現、交通運輸的發展等等。」[7]這裡的許多地區在歷史上曾隸屬於一座名為蘭開夏郡的非都市郡，在19世紀初至20世紀初期間處於紡織製造業的前沿位置。[8][9]大曼徹斯特郡擁有豐富的工業遺產，是英國工業遺蹟的典型代表。[9]

位於埃克爾斯的聖瑪麗聖母教區教堂是大曼徹斯特郡最古老的建築，這座教堂建於13世紀，並在此後依舊不斷地大規模擴建。大曼徹斯特郡共有8座莊園別墅是I級登錄建築，歷史最為悠久的可追溯至公元14世紀。至今仍在使用的索爾福德羅馬天主教主教的住處——Wardley Hall，保存有St Ambrose Barlow（英格蘭和威爾士的四十烈士之一）的完整头骨，放置在主樓梯的壁龕上。[10]這些都歸功於工程師喬治·史蒂芬生，其中的利物浦路火車站是世界上現存最古老的火車站。[11]大曼徹斯特郡最新的I級登錄建築是埃德加·伍德為自己設計的住所Royd House，建於1916年。[12]大曼徹斯特郡約一半（22座）的I級登錄建築建於19世紀。[1]
