德克萨斯州州际公路均为德克萨斯州所有,并由其维护。[1]德克萨斯州交通部(缩写:TxDOT)负责位于德克萨斯州境内州际公路的日常维护和运营工作。德克萨斯州州际公路全长3,239.7英里(5,213.8公里),共有10条主干道,六条辅助线路,以及分为东西两线、分别联通达拉斯和沃斯堡的35號州際公路(I-35)。位于德州境内的州际公路路段中,最长的为10號州際公路(I-10),长878.6英里(1,414.0公里);最短的为110號州際公路,长0.9英里(1.4公里)。
德克萨斯州的州际高速公路系统建设早于这些公路正式被冠以“州际高速公路”的名号。长50-英里(80-公里)、连接Galveston和Houston的45號州際公路于1951年开通,8年后它才被冠以I-45之名。它也是德州的第一条城市快速公路。1962年,43英里(69公里)长的35號州際公路比爾縣段开通,这是首个位于大都市区域、联通县级公路的州际公路。[2]位于圣安东尼奥以西的10號州際公路路段由于过大的空间和附近缺乏劳工,工期严重延误。该路段建设工程跨越20世纪70、80年代,共最终于90年代完工。而圣安东尼奥以东的路段早在1972年就已完工,早了20年。[3]1992年,随着长6-英里(10-公里)的27號州際公路路段开通,德克萨斯州州际公路系统正式完工。[4]
