2022年6月17日凌晨，频道试播，试播期间只有中英文红色字“港台电视34 即将启播”及“RTHK TV34 Coming Soon”的静态画面。

2022年6月24日，中央广播电视总台在其举行的“CGTN纪录频道和粤港澳大湾区之声频率在港落地发布仪式”上正式宣布，由香港电台通过香港地面数码电视平台转播CGTN纪录频道。此前港台曾以港台电视33转播过该频道，但后来以“多数香港本地观众倾向于收看中文节目”为由，而于2017年5月29日改为转播CCTV-1。

2022年6月24日12:00，港台电视34开始转播CGTN纪录频道，并于台徽下方加上“讯号测试”；7月1日0:00取消测试字样，正式播出。

香港地区广播格式

港台电视34（数码版）

H.264格式，宽高比16:9，DTMB制式，音效以杜比数码AC3编码，两条AC-3位流，每位流一般为两声道，亦会因应节目而提供环回立体声效果。

港台电视34与港台电视31、港台电视32及港台电视33共同于一条带宽大约21.5Mbps（兆位/秒）的单频网。

数码港台电视34（经有线网络公共天线传送数码版）

如大厦的公共天线系统是由有线电视负责，将会有一个经594MHz传送的港台电视31、32、33、34节目讯号。四个电视节目台的节目内容与大气电波广播的522MHz完全相同，唯一分别是频道名称前面会加上“数码”两字。
