银河护卫队从塔纳利尔·提冯的手中买下知无领域（英语：Knowhere）后开始着手于修复灭霸在七年前所造成的破坏，在十一年前重获自由的提冯收藏品之一科斯莫（英语：Cosmo the Spacedog）亦加入成为了护卫队的一员。临近圣诞节，克拉格林（英语：Kraglin）向护卫队讲述了勇度·乌丹塔在彼得·奎尔小时候糟蹋了圣诞节的故事。螳螂女与德拉克斯随后决定一起找一份完美的圣诞礼物送给一直因为卡魔拉的离去而感到郁闷的奎尔。

在制定好全盘计划后，两人便立即起行前往地球寻找奎尔的儿时偶像凯文·贝肯。在中国戏院、好莱坞星光大道和一所酒吧度过了一段欢乐的时光后，两人透过一张明星住址地图成功寻获居于比弗利山庄的贝肯，却在穷追不舍之下把当时正在等待家人回家的贝肯吓得慌忙逃走。最后，螳螂女在催眠所有接到贝肯的报案而赶到现场的警察后控制了贝肯的情绪并顺利带走了他。在回程的途中，螳螂女和德拉克斯失望地得知贝肯其实只是一位演员，而并非所谓的大英雄。回到知无领域后，众人精心布置了一大堆圣诞装饰并给了奎尔一个大大的惊喜，但奎尔最后在得知贝肯在不情愿的情况下被他们绑架至此后吓得不知所措。

最后，奎尔下令把贝肯立即送回地球，但贝肯在准备离开时被克拉格林告知自己在奎尔心中的地位，于是便回心转意决定留在知无领域与众人庆祝完圣诞节后才回家。在尽兴一番后，奎尔向螳螂女透露克拉格林所述的故事并非事实的全部：其实当时勇度在事后回心转意，并送了奎尔至今仍随身配备的四管爆能枪给他作为圣诞礼物。螳螂女亦鼓起勇气告知奎尔自己其实是他的同父异母之妹，多年来只是一直因为不想勾起他不好的回忆而没有开口，令奎尔顿时感到十分惊喜和感动。

2020年12月，漫威影业总裁凯文·费奇在迪士尼投资人会议上宣布开发以银河护卫队成员为主要角色的电视特辑《银河护卫队 假日特辑》，《银河护卫队》系列电影的导演兼编剧詹姆斯·古恩负责执导和撰写剧本[18][19]。古恩证实特辑将启用真人演出，同时属于漫威电影宇宙的正史[20]。特辑是漫威的首个Disney+项目计划，由古恩在制作《银河护卫队2》期间开始构思[21]，美国广播公司在电影上映后负责开发[22]。古恩透露自己从儿时起就是1978年节目《星球大战：假日特辑》和一些动画圣诞特辑（英语：Christmas specials）（如1964年节目《红鼻子驯鹿鲁道夫（英语：Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (TV special)）》和1966年节目《圣诞怪杰（英语：How the Grinch Stole Christmas! 古恩称故事极之疯狂和有趣、表示特辑是他“至今最喜欢的故事”，并指他多年来就此不断烦扰着费奇[20][26]。古恩于2021年4月完成撰写剧本，故事大纲则早于几年前完成[23][21]。古恩花费了几个小时来编写剧本，他表示在构思好特辑的故事后便加入了凯文·贝肯[6]。《银河护卫队》系列电影中的主要角色全数回归[27]，特辑主要围绕着螳螂女与德拉克斯。古恩决定聚焦于该两位角色的关系上，因为他认为他们自《银河护卫队2》后在有护卫队登场的电影中都被“边缘化”，又指他们有点像两傻（英语：Abbott and Costello）、但均是两傻中的科斯特洛（Costello）[28]，并补充道“他们与其他普通人类完全没有共同的价值观，因此他们的底线也跟我们不同，他们就像在跟随着一支失控的消防水龙般”[4]。饰演螳螂女的庞·克莱门捷夫指特辑感觉“非常傻气、非常有趣和可爱”，同时“也极为建于一些更深层、更美丽和发自内心的东西之上”[29]。

特辑于2022年2月在乔治亚州亚特兰大的三石制片厂（英语：Trilith Studios）开机拍摄[32][33][8]，工作标题为“果酱馅饼”（Poptart）[34][35]。2023年电影《银河护卫队3》的制作于2021年11月至2022年5月进行[36][37]，特辑与其使用同一个制作片场[38][6]，并于其制作的后期阶段中拍摄[25]。《银河护卫队2》和《银河护卫队3》的摄影指导亨利·布拉汉姆担当特辑的摄影指导[39]。古恩对于能在完成拍摄电影的一些场景后转为拍摄特辑感到高兴，因为两者的风格存有不同，其中《银河护卫队3》较为情绪化[28]；他又指特辑的拍摄比《银河护卫队3》容易[6]。特辑原计划于2019年在《银河护卫队3》的制作期间拍摄，其后作出了多次延期[25]；亦曾计划于2022年1月初在洛杉矶开机，但因应2019冠状病毒病Omicron变异株爆发而再次延期拍摄[40]。乐队Old 97's于2022年3月拍摄了他们的戏份[8]。3月底，剧组在亚特兰大乡村俱乐部（英语：Atlanta Country Club）取景拍摄，片场被装饰成圣诞节主题场景[41]。4月28日，剧组在好莱坞的中国戏院取景拍摄巴蒂斯塔和克莱门捷夫的戏份，片场除了圣诞装饰外还出现了2021年电影《永恒族》中由库梅尔·南贾尼饰演的角色金勾的海报[42]。拍摄作业于4月底杀青[43]。

动画闪回画面由迈克尔·鲁克和卢克·克莱因（Luke Klein）拍摄、笨伙伴工作室（Stoopid Buddy Stoodios[e]）以拉尔夫·巴克希的风格透过转描机技术制作成动画，以仿效兰金／贝斯动画娱乐（英语：Rankin/Bass Animated Entertainment）的圣诞特辑[3]。其他动画工作室曾竞逐负责动画闪回画面，但他们向漫威提交的试验片段使用了较为传统的动画技术，与笨伙伴工作室所建议的转描机技术相比之下不免显得相形见绌，而笨伙伴工作室的提案正正符合古恩与漫威所希望呈现的画面；动画导演马克·怀汀（Mac Whiting）寻获有关巴克希风格动画制作方法的档案记录，以供参考并确博尔特辑的过程尽可能真实，他与团队于鲁克和克莱因进行拍摄时亦在片场与古恩讨论诸如设置相机之类的事情，以确保“对动画来说足够简单，但亦足够动态以达致戏院般的大型感觉”[44]。笨伙伴工作室在制作动画时添加了勇度头上的鳍，并将克莱因的特征调整至更为贴近年轻的奎尔[3]。十至十二位人士花了大约四个月的时间完成动画工作，笨伙伴工作室与Studio Moshi共同进行了额外动画工作[44]。

2022年1月，为《银河护卫队3》作曲的约翰·墨菲（英语：John Murphy (composer)）确定担当特辑的配乐师[47]，他在制作电影途中为特辑编写了配乐[48]。古恩早已为电影进行了选曲[49]，并为开场曲〈I Don't Know What Christmas Is (But Christmastime Is Here)〉填词，又邀请了Old 97's的成员瑞特·米拉（英语：Rhett Miller）一同作曲，他自90年代起一直是该乐队的粉丝；歌曲在特辑播出后空降《Billboard》假期单曲畅销榜第四名[50]、摇滚单曲畅销榜第五名[51]、数码歌曲榜第十五名[52][53]，以及原声带榜第二十五名[54]。特辑结尾中的歌曲〈Here It Is Christmastime〉为Old 97's的作品，与他们一同重新录制了歌曲的贝肯在表达对歌曲的喜爱时指：“此时此刻真的很难写出一首带有新鲜感的圣诞歌，而我在开始演奏时真的非常享受演奏和演唱的乐趣”[55][6]。
