歐裔澳洲人

歐裔澳洲人（英語：European Australians）是指祖先源自歐洲，現在居住在澳洲的後裔，為澳洲最大的族裔。19世紀初期，澳洲絕大多數的人都有歐裔血統，這使人們將澳洲視為歐洲國家。歷史上，歐洲移民對澳洲的社會文化產生了巨大影響。[4][5]

在澳洲人口普查中，人們可透過自身的文化認同來表示他們在歐洲的血統；例如，在2016年澳洲人口普查中，歐洲族裔統計選項就包含英格蘭人、蘇格蘭人、愛爾蘭人、德意志人和意大利人。[7]

在2016年的人口普查中，有33％的受訪者表示自己祖先是「澳洲人」。澳洲統計局表示，大多數表態自己先祖是「澳洲人」的受訪者其實都是歐裔白人（主要是盎格魯-凱爾特人（英語：Anglo-Celtic Australians））。[8]

英國海外領土新南威爾士殖民地（英語：Colony of New South Wales）首次建立於1788年1月26日[9]，由亞瑟·菲利普船長所建立，此建立日期後來成為澳洲國慶節（澳洲日），新南威爾士殖民地範圍還包含現在的新西蘭群島，直到1841年成為獨立的殖民地為止。[10]

澳洲歐洲裔人口從1800年的0.3％上升至1850年的58.6％。[24]在1868年，歐裔澳洲人人口為1,539,552。[25]

澳洲大量土地被用於農業和其他目的，除了對特定地區的生態產生了明顯影響外，還透過掠奪資源、居住空間和食物來剝奪澳洲原住民的生存空間；歐裔移民者帶來了傳染病使澳洲原住民染病死亡。在1788年至1930年代之間的的衝突導致至少20,000澳洲土著居民和2,000至2,500名歐洲裔死亡。[26]

在19世紀，愛爾蘭人佔了澳洲歐洲裔人口的25％[12]；德國裔為澳洲除了英國之外最大的歐裔移民社群。[27]

1971年，移民澳洲的海外十大出生地中有九個來自歐洲國家，佔海外出生人口總數的77.2％。來自英國的人仍然是最大的群體。但是，它們在海外出生人口總數中的比例有所下降，從1971年的40.6％（1,046,356）下降到2016年的17.7％（1,078,064）。[28]

1987年，絕大多數歐裔澳洲人都是1850年以後到達的盎格魯-愛爾蘭-蘇格蘭人的後裔，或者是1945年之後移民的希臘人、意大利人、匈牙利人、波羅的人、波蘭人和德意志人的後裔。[29]

1976年以來，澳洲的人口普查不再要求提供族裔資料，至今尚不清楚有多少澳洲人具有歐洲血統。[41]估算值從85％到92％不等的人都有歐裔血統。[45][46]在2000年，估計約有25％的歐裔澳洲人是有愛爾蘭血統。[47]

歐裔澳洲人的文化構成部分澳洲文化，澳洲的文化本質上是一種西方文化，然後受澳洲大陸獨特的地理環境、澳洲原住民、托雷斯海峽島民和其他大洋洲族群影響融合形成。.[49] 由於英格蘭人是最大的移民族裔，因此他們的文化影響力自然大於同樣是大不列顛移民的愛爾蘭人，威爾斯人或蘇格蘭人。在語言（英語）、法律（英美法系）、政府體系、宗教教派（基督新教聖公會）和體育（板球和橄欖球）等領域都是構成澳洲文化的因素。[50]

英語在澳洲是主要使用的語言，雖然憲法沒規定英語在澳洲的官方地位，但事實上許多澳洲人把英語作為第一語言使用。 澳洲英語源於英國英語，在1788年殖民時期開始發展，並迅速成為一個獨特的口音的英語。[51]
