国家化身是一个国家的人格化形象,通过拟人化或物像化的方式来代表一个国家。波兰球及黑塔利亞是大量使用拟人化的著作,而中国大陆的《那年那兔那些事》就用拟动物来比喻国家。
西方国家通常采用智慧和战争之神雅典娜作为国家化身,并采用罗马帝国的行省的名称来命名,西亚国家大多使用老鹰或秃鹰的国家化身,如埃及和南也门,东南亚和南亚则是使用老虎或大象如印度和泰国,和经济崛起的亚洲四小虎们,远东国家则大多使用神龙作为其国家化身,尤其是亚洲。台湾,香港,新加坡和韩国则因此被称为亚洲四小龙(不过英文原版称呼叫“亚洲四小虎”),整合亚洲的新亚运会旗象征正是被老鹰和神龙双方围绕着,代表西亚和东亚的结合,非洲国家则大多以狮子斑马等非洲野生动物当作他们的国家化身,或者更传统带有本地鲜明色彩的黑色人种。
